Understand the documents, learning materials, staff, facilities and quality systems required to offer accredited agricultural training in South Africa.
AGRISETA accreditation requirements help prospective training providers understand what they must have in place before offering recognised agricultural qualifications or skills programmes. Accreditation is programme-specific and requires evidence that the provider has the institutional capacity, qualified personnel, learning resources and practical facilities needed to deliver its chosen programme properly.
AgriSETA serves the agriculture sector and supports skills development across industries such as animal production, horticulture, grain, forestry, food processing, aquaculture, poultry, red meat, sugar and agricultural services. However, Skills Development Providers wishing to offer occupational qualifications, part-qualifications and skills programmes must now apply directly to the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations.
Nelson Academic Accreditation helps agricultural training providers identify the correct qualification, assess their readiness and prepare the required supporting evidence. Our education accreditation consultants can guide your organisation through the applicable QCTO accreditation process.
The exact requirements depend on the qualification or skills programme you intend to offer. Each programme has its own curriculum, staffing, equipment and workplace-experience requirements. Nevertheless, prospective agricultural training providers should generally prepare evidence covering the following areas:
These requirements must be supported by real evidence. Generic documents alone will not demonstrate that your organisation is ready to deliver the programme. The policies, staff, learning materials and physical resources presented in the application should correspond with what is available in practice.
The first step is to identify the exact qualification, part-qualification or skills programme you want to offer. You should confirm its registered title, qualification code, NQF level, credits, curriculum structure and delivery requirements before developing learning materials or preparing the application.
An agricultural provider might intend to offer programmes related to plant production, animal production, farm supervision, mixed farming, agricultural equipment, poultry production or another specialised field. Each programme can require different facilities, practical activities, personnel and workplace exposure.
Choosing the wrong qualification can result in unsuitable learning material, missing equipment and unnecessary expenditure. Nelson AA can help review the intended programme and establish whether your organisation currently has the capacity to meet its requirements.
A prospective provider must demonstrate that it can manage education and training consistently. The quality management system should explain how the organisation will recruit and admit learners, deliver training, conduct internal assessments, manage records and respond to quality concerns.
Policies may need to address learner entry requirements, recognition of prior learning, programme delivery, assessment, appeals, complaints, staff responsibilities, document control, learner support, health and safety and continuous improvement. These policies should be supported by registers, forms and procedures that staff can implement during normal operations.
Our broader accreditation checklist can help you begin reviewing your institutional documentation and operational readiness.
Learning and assessment materials must cover the applicable knowledge, practical skills and workplace-experience components of the programme. A learning material matrix can be used to demonstrate how each curriculum requirement is addressed.
The provider must also show that suitably qualified personnel are available to deliver and support the programme. Staff evidence may include CVs, identity documents, qualifications, experience records and contracts or letters of commitment.
Agricultural training often requires resources beyond an ordinary classroom. Depending on the programme, this could include land, crops, livestock, workshops, machinery, hand tools, storage areas, irrigation systems, protective clothing or access to a suitable farm or workplace. Any external facilities should be supported by formal agreements confirming that learners will have access to the required practical experience.
AgriSETA has confirmed that Skills Development Providers must apply directly to the QCTO for occupational qualifications, part-qualifications and skills programmes. The provider must demonstrate both institutional compliance and programme-delivery readiness.
The application process can include an initial submission, supporting-document evaluation and a physical or virtual site visit. Evaluators may inspect the proposed premises, learning materials, equipment, staff evidence, internal assessment systems and learner-administration processes.
The documentation submitted must match the provider’s actual operation. Staff should understand their roles, resources should be available for inspection and any workplace arrangements should be properly documented.
Nelson AA can help you select the correct programme, identify compliance gaps, prepare your quality management documentation and organise the evidence required for evaluation. Although accreditation cannot be guaranteed, a properly prepared application can reduce avoidable omissions and delays.

A prospective provider generally needs legal registration documents, a quality management system, learning and assessment materials, qualified personnel, suitable premises, agricultural equipment, learner-administration systems and workplace arrangements where practical experience is required. The exact requirements depend on the selected programme.
Skills Development Providers seeking accreditation for occupational qualifications, part-qualifications and skills programmes must apply directly to the QCTO. AgriSETA continues to perform important agriculture-sector skills development and quality-partner functions.
Yes. Accreditation is granted for specified qualifications, part-qualifications or skills programmes. Your selected programme determines the curriculum, staffing, learning materials, equipment and practical facilities required for accreditation.
This depends on the programme. Where practical or workplace experience forms part of the curriculum, the provider must demonstrate access to suitable facilities. If these facilities are not owned by the provider, formal workplace or resource-sharing agreements may be required.
The provider should have complete learning and assessment materials aligned with the knowledge, practical skills and workplace-experience components of the applicable curriculum. A material matrix may be required to demonstrate this alignment.
The accreditation evaluation may include a physical or virtual site visit. The evaluator can inspect the provider’s premises, staff evidence, agricultural resources, learning materials, policies and administrative systems.
No consultant can guarantee a regulatory decision. Nelson AA can help identify the correct route, assess your readiness, prepare documentation and organise your supporting evidence, but the final decision remains with the QCTO.
There is no guaranteed timeframe. The duration depends on the programme, application completeness, evaluation schedules, site-visit availability and whether the provider must submit additional evidence or complete corrective work.
