Prepare your organisation, learning programmes and supporting evidence with a practical MICT SETA and QCTO accreditation checklist for South African training providers.
A MICT SETA accreditation checklist helps a prospective Skills Development Provider identify the documents, people, learning materials and operational resources required before beginning an accreditation application. Proper preparation is essential because accreditation is based on your organisation’s demonstrated ability to deliver a specific qualification or skills programme to the required standard.
The Media, Information and Communication Technologies SETA serves organisations operating in areas such as information technology, telecommunications, advertising, film, electronic media and electronics. However, providers intending to offer occupational qualifications and skills programmes within the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework generally apply for accreditation through the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations.
Nelson Academic Accreditation helps providers understand this relationship, identify the correct qualification and prepare the evidence required for a credible application. Our education accreditation consultants can review your current readiness and guide your organisation through the preparation process.
The precise requirements will depend on the qualification, programme and delivery model for which you are applying. Nevertheless, most prospective providers should prepare evidence in the following areas:
This list should be used as a preparation framework rather than as a guarantee that every application will require exactly the same documents. The relevant curriculum, QCTO criteria and any programme-specific requirements must be checked before the application is submitted.
Before developing policies or purchasing learning material, confirm the exact qualification, part-qualification or skills programme your organisation wants to deliver. Its registered title, curriculum code, NQF level, credits and delivery requirements determine much of the evidence needed for accreditation.
MICT SETA states that providers intending to apply under the QCTO accreditation process must first submit the required application or letter of intent through the applicable QCTO route. The QCTO assesses the submission and determines whether the provider may proceed with the accreditation process.
Starting with the wrong programme or application route can result in unsuitable learning material, missing resources and unnecessary costs. Nelson AA can help you verify the intended scope before the main application work begins.
Your quality management system should explain how the organisation will manage training consistently. It should not be a collection of generic policies that bears no relationship to your actual operation.
The system may need to address learner admission, recognition of prior learning, programme delivery, assessment, appeals, complaints, certification, staff responsibilities, document control, internal monitoring and continuous improvement. The policies should be supported by usable templates, registers and procedures that staff can implement.
You can use our general accreditation checklist to review these institutional requirements in more detail.
A provider must have suitable learning material for the complete programme. The material should cover the relevant knowledge, practical and workplace components and be aligned with the curriculum. A learning material matrix is commonly used to demonstrate where each curriculum requirement is addressed.
You must also provide evidence that suitably qualified people are available to deliver and support the programme. This may include facilitators, subject matter experts, assessors and administrative personnel. Where assessor capacity is required, review the information on QCTO assessor registration.
Your premises and equipment must match the needs of the qualification and proposed delivery method. This could include training rooms, computers, internet access, specialist software, practical equipment, learner-support resources and compliant health and safety arrangements. Providers should be ready to demonstrate that these resources exist and are suitable during an evaluation or site visit.
Once the initial application has been submitted, the provider may be asked to upload supporting evidence for a desktop evaluation. If the institutional and programme requirements are met, the process may proceed to a virtual or physical site visit.
During the evaluation, the evidence submitted must match what exists in practice. Staff should understand their roles, premises should be ready, learning materials should be complete and the required resources should be available for inspection.
Nelson AA can help organise your evidence file, identify gaps and prepare your team for the evaluation process. Contact Nelson Academic Accreditation to discuss your MICT SETA accreditation checklist and the next steps for your training provider application.

A checklist commonly covers company registration documents, qualification details, quality management policies, learning and assessment materials, qualified staff, suitable premises, equipment, workplace arrangements and learner administration systems. Requirements vary according to the programme and accreditation route.
Skills Development Providers seeking accreditation for occupational qualifications, part-qualifications and skills programmes on the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework generally apply through the QCTO process. MICT SETA continues to perform important sector and quality-partner functions. Confirm the applicable route for the specific programme before applying.
You must be able to demonstrate programme-delivery readiness. Complete learning material aligned with the relevant curriculum and supported by a learning material matrix will generally be required during the evaluation process.
An accreditation evaluation may include a virtual or physical site visit. The evaluator can inspect your premises, learning materials, equipment, staff records, policies and other evidence to confirm that your organisation is ready to deliver the programme.
Nelson AA can help identify the correct route, review your readiness, prepare documentation, organise supporting evidence and guide your organisation through the application process. The final accreditation decision remains with the relevant regulatory body.
There is no single guaranteed timeframe. The duration depends on the programme, the completeness of the application, evaluation schedules, site-visit availability and whether additional information or corrective action is required.
